Milagres Church is one of the oldest churches in South Canara, located in Mangaluru city, dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles. Milagres is a Roman Catholic church set up in 1680 by Bishop Thomas De Castro.
History of Milagres Church,Mangaluru: The Church was built on a land gifted by Queen of Keladi, Rani Chennamma, as a gift to Goan Catholics who were keen to relocate to South Canara. During the rule of Tipu Sultan, he believed that Christians in Mangaluru were joining hands with British to defeat him. Thousands of Christians were captured and several churches including Milagres were partially destroyed during the war. After the defeat of Tipu Sultan, the captured Christians returned to Mangaluru and Milagres church was rebuilt.
