Chelavara Falls

Chelavara is a wide and milky waterfall in Kodagu district. Chelavara Falls is a serene waterfall created by a tributary of river Kaveri, with a 150 ft drop over a rock said to resemble the shape of a tortoise. Chelavara is located in Cheyyandane village, off Talakaveri-Virajapete road, State Highway 90. 

Chelavara Waterfalls can be visited during any time of the day. However, the water is about 100 meters deep with unpredictable rock profile at the bottom, making Chelavara Falls unsafe for bathing or swimming.

Places to visit near: Nalaknad Palace (starting point for Tadiandamol trek) is 13 kms away. Bhagamandala (38 kms), Talakaveri (45 kms), Madikeri city (37 kms) are often explored along with a visit to Chelavara waterfalls.

How to reach Chelavara Waterfalls:

Chelavara waterfall is 260 kms from Bengaluru and 37 kms from Madikeri. Kannur International Airport is 80 kms away. Public transport is available till Virajapete town, 21 kms from Chelavara waterfalls. From Virajapete jeeps or taxi may be hired to reach Chelavara Falls.

Places to stay near Chelavara Falls: Multiple home stays are available within a few kms of the falls. Club Mahindra Virajapete and The Tamara Coorg are two luxury resorts 12 kms from the falls. More stay options are available in various parts of Kodagu district.
