A Hidden Waterfall Experience in Uttara Kannada

Overview

Located near Siddapur in Uttara Kannada district, Burude Falls (also called Dodmane Falls) is a lesser-known multi-tiered waterfall tucked inside a lush forested gorge. The name “Burude” means “skull” in Kannada, referencing the waterfall’s rock formation — but its beauty is anything but eerie.

Fed by a stream that flows through dense woods, this picturesque waterfall descends over five distinct steps, creating a series of natural pools and viewpoints that are perfect for adventure seekers and nature lovers.

Why Visit Burude Falls

  • A layered waterfall with great trekking, photography, and exploration potential
  • Surrounded by thick forests, birdsong, and a sense of total seclusion
  • Less commercialised, ideal for those looking for raw and peaceful waterfall experiences

Burude Falls is particularly enchanting in the post-monsoon season, when the pools are full and the forest is alive with colour.

How to Reach

The waterfall is located about 20 km from Siddapur and roughly 55 km from Sirsi. Visitors need to trek around 1.5 km downhill through forest trails and narrow pathways to reach the base of the falls. The trek can be challenging, especially during rains — good footwear and caution are essential.

Best Time to Visit

October to February is ideal for visiting, offering strong waterfall flow with safer trekking conditions. During peak monsoon, the trail becomes slippery and risky, and access is often restricted.
