Celebrating the 77th Republic Day: Karnataka’s Tribute to Nature and Nation

As the tricolour unfurls across the nation on January 26, 2026, the spirit of patriotism fills the air. This year is particularly special as India commemorates 150 Years of Vande Mataram – the song that became the soul of our freedom struggle. In Karnataka, this national fervor blends seamlessly with a celebration of our literary and ecological heritage.

From the floral grandeur of Bengaluru’s botanical gardens to the disciplined march at the parade grounds, here is how the state is marking this historic day.

The National Spirit: 150 Years of Vande Mataram

The 77th Republic Day is not just about the constitution; it is a homage to the anthem that united millions. The central theme for this year’s celebrations reflects the timeless power of Vande Mataram. Across the state, from schools in Bidar to the coast of Mangaluru, the melody that Bankim Chandra Chatterjee penned a century and a half ago will resonate with renewed pride.

Lalbagh Flower Show 2026: “Tejaswi-Vismaya”

The crown jewel of Karnataka’s Republic Day celebrations is undoubtedly the 219th Lalbagh Flower Show. This year, the Department of Horticulture has dedicated the show to the legendary Kannada writer and environmentalist, K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi.

Titled “Tejaswi-Vismaya” (The Wonder of Tejaswi), the show transforms the Glass House into a living narrative of his works.

  • The Highlights: Visitors can witness a massive floral replica of Tejaswi’s home, ‘Niruttara’, and intricate floral sculptures of the biodiversity of the Western Ghats – a subject close to his heart.

The Literary Connection: Special floral tributes are paid to characters from his iconic novel Karvalo, blending literature with horticulture.

Grand Parade at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground

In the heart of Bengaluru, the official state celebration takes place at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground. The Honorable Governor of Karnataka will hoist the National Flag, followed by a magnificent parade showcasing the state’s discipline and diversity.

  • What to Expect: The parade features contingents from the Karnataka Police, NCC, and various school bands. The cultural troupes this year are set to perform the vibrant Dollu Kunitha and Yakshagana, representing the rich folklore of Namma Nadu.

Plan Your Republic Day

Whether you are watching the flypast at the parade ground or walking through the floral wonders at Lalbagh, this Republic Day offers a perfect blend of patriotism and culture.

  • Lalbagh Timings: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Show ends Jan 26).
  • Traffic Advisory: Commuters are advised to avoid the central business district (MG Road, Cubbon Road) between 8:30 AM and 12:00 PM due to parade restrictions.

Jai Hind! Jai Karnataka!
