Akki Rotti

Akki Rotti is rice based flat bread, a traditional breakfast item in Karnataka. Akki roti is high on carbohydrates and minerals such as sodium and potassium.

How is Akki Rotti made:

Fine rice flour is mixed with chopped onions, carrot, curry leaves, grated coconut, coriander leaves, salt, cumin and green chilli. These ingredients are thoroughly kneaded with water as well as oil and Akki roti dough is made. Usage of herbs like dill leaves induces nice aroma to Akki Roti.

The dough is then applied on top a banana (plantain) leaf, spread into thin circular shape and transferred on to a tawa for heating. After a few minutes of heating on both sides on medium flame, Akki roti is ready to be served hot.

Served with: A small piece of butter is placed on top of hot Akki rotti. Akki Roti is best consumed when it is still hot. Akki Roti is often served with spicy chutneys or pickles.
