LET YOUR IDEAS BRING THE WORLD TO MYSURU

Karnataka State Tourism in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 invites entries for Branding Mysuru Competition ’23! 

Mysuru: a realm of majestic palaces, thriving wildlife sanctuaries, and vibrant local craftsmanship, immersing yourself in regal history, lush biodiversity, and authentic local experiences that make the city truly exceptional. Envision a brand identity that welcomes the world to Mysuru’s doorstep! 

Conceived by the Karnataka State Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Destination Management Committee of the Swadesh Darshan scheme, this competition aims to encapsulate the spirit of “There’s always more to experience in Mysuru.” 

Embrace this exceptional challenge to craft a collective tourism identity for Mysuru and transform its global perception. We invite the community to share innovative branding ideas that unveil Mysuru’s iconic treasures and hidden gems to the world. And who better to narrate Mysuru’s glories than the proud people of Karnataka themselves! Join hands to shape the future of Mysuru’s tourism narrative and let your creativity reign! 

The Challenge
Craft a compelling brand identity for Mysuru that encapsulates its essence and resonates with travellers from across the globe. The challenge is to create a curated tourism-focused campaign idea that unveils the hidden treasures of Mysuru to the world using the following four elements. The challenge is bilingual and entriescan be submitted both in English and Kannada!

Your submission should capture the theme in either one, two, three or all ofthe following four elements listed below: 

Package One 

  • A Captivating Logo that symbolizes the regal grandeur, ecological harmony, and/or local craftsmanship of Mysuru, capturing its essence in a visual masterpiece. 
  • A Catchy Tagline that evokes a longing for Mysuru, inspiring travelers to come and embark on an extraordinary journey to Mysuru’s realm of wonders. 

Package Two 

  • An Endearing Mascot that connects to the soul of Mysuru and someone every Mysorean can relate to. 

Package Three 

Designed Souvenir with standard branding language that celebrates the local handicraft and artisan products of Mysuru that tourists can take with them, forever cherishing the memories of the city. 

Package Four 

  • A blog describing your favorite place to visit and/or activity to do in Mysuru. The write up should bring out the essence that there is always more to experience in Mysuru. 

Rewards 

  • Each package has a total cash prize worth of Rs 35,000/- 

o First place: Rs 20,000/-  

o Second place: Rs 10,000/-  

o Third place: Rs 5,000/-  

  • All shortlisted entries stand a chance to present their ideas to the city authorities. 
  • Winning entries will be published on the Karnataka Tourism website. 
  • All the participants shall receive Digital Certificate of participation from the Authority.

  

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

The submission will be in multiple A5 sheets depending on the number of packagesthat are participated in (except the blog): 

  • Each submission must include a brief explanation of 200 words depicting how the designs shall showcase Mysuru as an absolute must-visit destination and how the design elements come together as a cohesive brand identity for Mysuru. 
  • The sheets need to be compiled into a PDF format of a maximum of 10MB size for submission and be sent in via email. 
  • Any form of identification such as names, nicknames or codes written anywhere on the sheet will result in disqualification. 
  • The 100-word writeup will be in a separate sheet and must contain a clear and logical explanation that ties together the elements as a cohesive branding campaign. 
  • The sheets need to be sent to at competitions@karnatakatourism.org within 04th of September 2023. Any entry beyond the deadline shall not be considered under any circumstance. 
  • In case of handmade designs, the scanned sheets need to be at 3000px X 2200px resolution and at a minimum of 300DPI. 
  • Only the shortlisted entries along with the owners shall be asked to submit the open files once shortlisted.

The winners of the Branding Mysuru Competitions, as we celebrate the incredible talent and creativity that has graced this competition over the past few months.

Before we delve into the names of those who have emerged victorious, let me take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to all the participants. Your dedication and passion for showcasing the essence of Mysuru through branding strategies have truly been remarkable. The diverse and innovative approaches we’ve witnessed have not only added vibrancy to this competition but have also contributed to a richer tapestry of ideas that can potentially shape the future of how we perceive and promote our beloved city.

Now, without further ado, let’s unveil the names of the talented individuals and teams who have earned the top honors in the “Branding Mysuru Competitions 23!”

A CAPTIVATING LOGO

As part of Package 1, create a Captivating Logo that symbolizes the regal grandeur, ecological harmony, and/or local craftsmanship of Mysuru, capturing its essence in a visual masterpiece.

  •  The logo design must at least be 10cm X 10cm and not larger than 21cm X 14.8cm (A5 size) in landscape orientation.
  •  The logo must have 3 variations, 2 in distinct colour options and similar option 3rd in black and white.
  •  Participants must ensure original logos are submitted.
  •  Plagiarized submissions will result in disqualification.
  •  The logo must not contain any provocative, objectionable, or inappropriate content.
  •  Logos generated from Generative Art tools such as Midjourney or Stable Diffusion will result in disqualification.
  •  The logo final design submission may be designed on a digital platform such as MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, etc. In such a case, the logo must be in high resolution and the quality must not be less than 300 DPI to avoid blurring and pixelation.
  •  The logo should be usable on digital media such as websites / social media like Facebook and Instagram, press releases, digital advertisements, etc as well as printed promotional material such as brochures, magazines, hoardings, leaflets, souvenirs, etc.
  •  Copyright of all designs submitted under the competition shall lie with Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka.
  •  Both logo and tagline need to be submitted as part of Package 1 to qualify for the competition.

A CATCHY TAGLINE

As part of Package 1, make a Catchy Tagline that evokes a longing for Mysuru, inspiring travelers to come and embark on an extraordinary journey to Mysuru’s realm of wonders.

  •  The tagline must be no longer than 6 words.
  •  Entries in both Kannada and English are required. Any other language shall lead to the disqualification of the entry.
  •  Participants must ensure original tagline phrases are submitted. The tagline should not violate any provision of Indian Copyright Act 1957. Plagiarized submissions such as those taken directly from existing campaigns and products will result in disqualification.
  •  The tagline must not contain any provocative, objectionable, or inappropriate content.
  •  Copyright of all taglines submitted under the competition shall lie with Department of Tourism, Karnataka State Government.
  •  Both logo and tagline need to be submitted as part of Package 1 to qualify for the competition.

 

AN ENDEARING MASCOT

As part of Package 2, design an Endearing Mascot that connects to the soul of Mysuru and someone every Mysorean can relate to.

  •  The mascot design must at least be 12cm X 12cm and not larger than 21cm X 14.8cm (A5 size) in landscape or portrait orientation.
  •  Participants must ensure original mascot designs are submitted. Plagiarized submissions will result in disqualification.
  •  The mascot design must not contain any provocative, objectionable, or inappropriate content.
  •  Mascot designs generated from Generative Art tools such as Midjourney or Stable Diffusion will result in disqualification.
  •  The mascot final design submission may be designed on a digital platform such as MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, etc. In such a case, the logo must be in high resolution and the quality must not be less than 300 DPI to avoid blurring and pixelation.
  •  The mascot design should be conducive to be developed into wearable costumes, stuffed toys and souvenirs, inflatable floats, statues, etc.
  •  The mascot design should be usable on digital media such as websites / social media like Facebook and Instagram, press releases, digital advertisements, etc. as well as printed promotional material such as brochures, magazines, hoardings, leaflets, souvenirs, etc.
  •  Copyright of all designs submitted under the campaign shall lie with Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka.

A UNIQUE SOUVENIR(S)

As part of Package 3.

Design a Souvenir with standard branding language that celebrates the local handicraft and artisan products of Mysuru that tourists can take with them, forever cherishing the memories of the city.

  •  The souvenir must be tourist focused and should strictly be inspired from existing handicraft styles and artisanal products local to Mysuru. However, the souvenir may be a contemporary interpretation of the existing artisanal product.
  •  The souvenir design should be a 2D representation of a 3D product. That must be at least 12cm X 12cm and not larger than 21cm X 14.8cm (A5 size) in landscape orientation.
  •  The souvenir product that can be developed from the design must not be larger than 12cm X 12cm X 20cm.
  •  The submission shall include images of the souvenir mockups for various products that can be used as souvenirs.
  •  The basic material specifications for the souvenir must be included in the design as arrow-marked labels or callouts.
  •  Participants must ensure original souvenir designs are submitted. Plagiarized submissions will result in disqualification.
  •  The souvenir design must not contain any provocative, objectionable, or inappropriate content.
  •  Souvenir designs generated from Generative Art tools such as Midjourney or Stable Diffusion will result in disqualification.
  •  The souvenir may be designed on a digital platform such as MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, illustrator etc. In such a case, the quality must not be less than 300 DPI to avoid blurring and pixelation.

 

A BLOG DESCRIBING YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE / ACTIVITY IN MYSURU

As part of Package 4, write a blogpost describing your favourite place to visit and/or activity to do in Mysuru. The write up should bring out the essence that there is always more to experience in Mysuru.

  •  The blog must be tourist focused and be about a place /activity to experience within Mysuru or a 1 hour driving radius around the city.
  •  The blog is to be a minimum of 500 words and can include photos.
  •  The photos taken should be original and copyright free.
  •  Submissions in English and/or Kannada are encouraged.
  •  The blog must not contain any provocative, objectionable, or inappropriate content.
