St Aloysius Chapel

St Aloysius Chapel, built in 1885, is an important chapel for followers of Christianity in Mangaluru, a Coastal city of Karnataka. A line of circular pillars holds aloft an arched ceiling. Oil paintings on canvas bonded to the ceiling depict the life of Aloysius Gonzaga to whom the chapel is dedicated. The Chapel also has beautiful paintings done by Br. Anthony Moschemi of Italy.

History of St Aloysius Chapel, Mangaluru: St Aloysius Chąpel was built as a part of Christian mission in South India. St Aloysius Chapel is part of St Aloysius college campus and part of an initiative to serve the healthcare, education and social welfare needs of the community.

Paintings: St Aloysius Chąpel showcases several magnificent pieces of artwork, crafted by Italian painter Antonio Moscheni. Most of the paintings are said to be dedicated to St Aloysius Gonzaga (a wealthy Christian who is said to have given up his wealth to serve the underprivileged) and showcase his life events. Other paintings showcase life events of Jesus Christ- birth, baptism, the wedding feast at Cana and crucifixion of Jesus.

Church  Visit Timings: St Aloysius Chąpel is open to visitors from 9.30 AM till 1 PM and 3 PM till 5.30 PM on all days. Spending a minimum of 1 hour is recommended.

How to reach St Aloysius Chapel: Mangaluru city is 350 kms from Bengaluru. Mangaluru is well connected by air, rail and road to rest of Karnataka. From Mangaluru, St Aloysius Chąpel is right in the city centre and can be reached by hiring an auto or taxi.
