Anegundi (15 KMS) |
|
|
Just across Thungabhadra river is the
fortress town of Anegundi , predating Vijayanagar And the
city's 14th centuary headquarters . More ancient than Hampi
, Anegundi lies in the mythical kingdom of Kishkinda , ruled
by the monkey king Sugriva of Ramayana . Anjanadri Hill
near Anegundi is believed to be the birth place of the monkey
god Hanuman . Anegundi and its tranquil environs are dotted
with forgotten temples and fortifications . The dilapidated
Huchappa Matha Temple , near the river is worth a peek for
its black stone lathe- turnd pillars and fine panels of
dancers . The other places of tourist interest are the sacred
Pampa Sarovara , Aramena and Ranganatha Temple .

Sanganakallu |
| The Sanganakallu-Kupgal cluster of archaeological sites is Asia’s oldest known village settlement. The cluster of sites is known as the ‘Sanganakallu-Kupgal Archaeological Heritage Area’, due to the remarkable concentration of archaeological sites in the area of these two villages (Sanganakallu and Kupgal). The area appears to have been particularly important during the Neolithic period, when settlement was focused on the granitic hills themselves. It is currently under excavation. |
